Meet Joy Johnson
|
|
|
Joy is an English major Pre-Masters of Arts in Elementary Education. She is the President of the Association of Black Collegians, a member of the Minority Ambassadors program and a peer mentor for the Center for Diversity and Inclusion. Additionally, she is a student worker in the Athletic Division, she does the work behind the scenes for the games on campus. After graduating from Truman State University she plans to be an elementary school teacher or middle school English teacher. Her passion is to help others prosper and become the best they can be. Back in St. Louis, Joy work for Saint Louis Public Schools as a recruiter, and for Noah's Ark Summer Day Camp as a camp counselor. An interesting fact is that she can recite any Beyoncé song by heart, and also she plays the piano.

De-Stress for the Tests

November 30th, 2018, 7 pm-9 pm
|
This will be an area of study/relaxation for students in preparation for the upcoming exams, quizzes, and papers due, utilized to promote a healthy mental state. There will be music playing, chalk, and whiteboards available for use, and also coloring books to help decrease stress in the participants.

National Conference on Race and Ethnicity (NCORE)
|
|
|
Each year Truman State University affords students the opportunity to go the National Conference on Race and Ethnicity (NCORE).
|
The conference is in Portland, Oregon
|
Those who want to attend must show proof of applying to the registration scholarship. A Diversity Fellows application must be completed and submitted by December 21, 2018. If selected for the Diversity Fellowship, costs associated with the conference are paid for: Registration, travel, hotel stay, & meal stipend. Applications are available in the Center for Diversity & Inclusion. Only students returning for the school year 2019-2020 are eligible to apply.

Applications for Summer Orientation Leaders open Monday, October 22nd. Orientation Leaders are essential to helping incoming students begin to make meaningful connections with the Truman community and transition to college. This is a paid opportunity with on-campus housing and meals provided. For more information and to apply, visit truman.edu/ol. Applications are due Friday, December 14th at 5PM.
