Meet Onyeka Nkenchor

A Junior Health Science Major with a concentration in Pre-Nursing. After graduating from Truman State University She wants to get a second bachelor's degree in Nursing and work as a Registered Nurse before going back to get a Doctorate in Nursing Practitioner. She is involved in the CDI Programming Team, Globemed, Nursing Student Association, and CCF. In her spare time she likes to listen to music and read.

International Women’s Health Panel Discussion Global Issues Colloquium

This panel discussion on Global Women’s Health will address, through a rich varied global perspective, an overview of the areas of women and family health care and needs throughout different parts of the world. Panel participants will offer perspectives and expertise based on their lifelong activism and medical careers addressing the urgent needs of global family health, such as in the areas of polio eradication, clean water and hygiene, maternal health care and genetically transmitted disease. Audience questions and comments are invited following the panel discussion.

1) Ray Klinginsmith, Member of Kirksville Rotary and 2011 President of Rotary International 2011 (worldwide): Mr. Klinginsmith is has led worldwide campaigns to eliminate polio, to provide clean water, hygiene, education, etc., and many similar humanitarian projects around the world, in particular for children, women, and families

2) Fara Alghalith, Instructor of Arabic, Truman State University: Dr. Alghalith is also a gynecologist who came to the United States from Jordan and has a strong professional background and experience as a caregiver for women’s health and maternity abroad.

3) Amanda Medlock-Klyukovski, Communications Professor, Truman State University: Dr. Medlock-Klyukovski has made a careful study of genetically transmitted disease in women, particularly cancer, and will speak on the intersection between family communication, genetic health risk, and reproductive choices.

4) Kit Hadwiger, Nursing Emeritus Professor, Truman State University: Ms. Kit Hadwiger will address her knowledge and experience of the Philippines in the area of women’s pregnancy, maternity, and birthing.

5) Steve Hadwiger, Nursing Emeritus Professor, Truman State University: Dr. Steve Hadwiger will speak to the topic of Medicalization and also to his own specialism and experience working as a medical professional in the Philippines.

The Global Issues Colloquium is sponsored by the Provost's Office and the Office of Interdisciplinary Studies.

STI Testing

in the University Health Center

The Women's Resource Center and the University Health Center are providing free STI tests for Truman's campus. This is completely free and all you need to do is walk into the health center and ask about the free STI tests. They will be testing for CHLAMYDIA AND GONORRHEA. On Feb. 4th the Women's Resource Center will be tabling in the SUB handing out information on STI. Feel free to stop by with any questions.

Have you encountered an outstanding professor or research mentor during your time at Truman? Nominate them to be recognized at Truman's annual Academic Accolades Banquet in April! This year, we are also sponsoring an inaugural Faculty Mental Health Honoree of the Year award. This award will seek to honor an educator at Truman who promotes mental health, and a culture thereof, both in and outside of the classroom. This is a great opportunity to highlight your favorite educators and their accomplishments and to show appreciation for their dedication to the Truman community.

The official Chinese New Year (Spring Festival). In China, this is the longest holiday of the year. Everything is closed for the first 5 days of the festival. This festival can last up to a month, it's that important! There will be performances and games that involve prizes. We will end the night with a FREE dinner!
