Q: How to deal with the stress of making tough decisions (i.e. internships, jobs, familial decisions, etc.)
A: Navigating life's decisions can be challenging, and Morgan Gaeke, Tracy Parks, and I are here to assist you throughout the semester. When facing uncertainties, especially in job choices, reflect on past experiences to identify preferences and dislikes. Treat each job as an experiment to learn and refine your preferences over time. Developing coping skills and practicing self-care beforehand can help you make decisions from a calmer state of mind.
When struggling with a decision, consider reflecting on your values. Although it won't guarantee a mistake-free outcome, it can reassure you that you made the best decision possible at the time. Acceptance is crucial; acknowledge the possibility of making mistakes and view them as valuable learning experiences.
In addition to personal reflection, lean on your social support network. Seek advice from those who know you well, remembering that the decision ultimately aligns with your values. I follow this process in my own decision-making, emphasizing the importance of relying on trusted individuals.
For more personalized guidance, feel free to reach out via email at lucas.fischer@cfmcares.com. Also, check out the peace paw hours at CDI on Tuesdays at 3PM, offering a relaxed setting to talk about various topics. Looking forward to assisting you on your journey!

The Center for Diversity and Inclusion (CDI) mission is to empower Truman State University community by dismantling disparities which prohibit fair and inclusive access to our resources, services, and programs, simultaneously strengthening the interpersonal relationships with historically unrepresented and systematically minoritized students. CDI believes it is the responsibility of every individual to intentionally contribute attitudes of open-mindedness that helps foster a culture of respect, inclusion, and belonging. Through academically, socially, and culturally responsive programming, CDI will continue to encourage students, administrators, faculty, and staff at Truman State University to engage in meaningful, transformative experiences while celebrating personal uniqueness and communal solidarity.
