Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!

September 15th is the day several Latin American countries declared their independence from Spain. Starting that day and for the following month, we recognize and pay respect to our Hispanic friends, family, peers, and ancestry, for their history and culture.

Mindset Matters

Ask & Advice Column

Q: How do I know when I need help?

A: You don’t have to wait until some predetermined severity level to ask for help. Ask for help now, or even before you’re to the point of struggling. Build “help” or my definition–community members caring for each other–into your life.

Q: How do you help your patients with anxiety?/ How do I deal with Anxiety?

A: That depends on what is causing your anxiety. I believe anxiety, an emotion that comes and goes that is often coupled with physical sensations, is a symptom of a bigger problem, not the problem itself. For example, if conflict with a housemate is making the whole house feel tense, we figure out the best way to talk to that friend and resolve the conflict.

Event Recaps

Self Care Fair

Last week, we hosted the first CDI Self Care Fair. Thank you to all the participating organizations and offices: TruSisters, SAB, Stu Gov, Institutional Compliance, University Counseling Services, and Positive Peers. Students were able to come and destress by making DIY stress balls, slime and participate in a guided meditation by Stu Gov. Remember to take care of yourself!

Hispanic Heritage Night

The event was a hit! We kicked off the start of HHM this past Friday with food, dance, and games. The students, faculty, staff, and community members in attendance Thank you to everyone who came and supported.

Back to School Social

On Sunday, students were free to come and celebrate the school year with games and food. It was great to see returning and new faces in the CDI office and surrounding spaces. We hope everyone has a great school year and be on the look out for future events from the CDI!
